Kim Sae Ron’s Mother Attempts Suicide Amid Legal Battle with Kim Soo Hyun
A member of Kim Sae Ron’s family has reportedly attempted suicide due to severe emotional distress caused by the ongoing legal dispute with Kim Soo Hyun.
According to Korean media, on March 14, Kim Sae Ron’s family had planned to attend a screening of her posthumous film “Before We Knew” at a CGV theater in Gangnam, Seoul.
However, just days before the event, a family member attempted suicide at home and was unable to attend. Sources later revealed that the individual was the late actress’s mother.
A close acquaintance of the family told the press: “The family’s only wish is for Kim Soo Hyun to acknowledge the truth and offer a sincere apology to the deceased.”
The source continued in frustration: “Instead, Kim Soo Hyun and his legal team have accused the family of spreading false information with fabricated evidence, causing them unbearable pain.”
The acquaintance also shed light on the late actress’s prolonged struggles: “Two years ago, when Kim Soo Hyun denied their relationship, it was as if Kim Sae Ron’s very existence was being denied. While dealing with the financial aftermath of her incident, she continued to suffer emotionally بسبب how the company handled things.”
“No amount of apology would ever be enough, yet they are now turning the bereaved family into criminals. This is unacceptable.”
The source further revealed that this was not the first time the family member had exhibited extreme behavior, warning that the situation is “extremely serious” and urging the public to stop all blame and attacks against the family.
Kim Sae Ron was found dead at her home in Seongdong District, Seoul, on February 16 last year—coincidentally the same day Kim Soo Hyun celebrated his 37th birthday.
In March 2025, the family publicly claimed via the YouTube channel Garosero that Kim Sae Ron had been in a five-year relationship with Kim Soo Hyun starting in 2016, when she was just 15 years old. They demanded that he admit the relationship and issue a public apology.
Other reports state that Kim Sae Ron had been under immense psychological pressure, especially after her DUI incident in May 2022. At the time, her former agency, Gold Medalist—also founded by Kim Soo Hyun—reportedly demanded compensation of up to 700 million won.
However, Kim Soo Hyun denied the allegations, stating that they only dated from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020, when she was already an adult.
He has since filed a civil lawsuit seeking 12 billion won in damages against Kim Sae Ron’s family and the operator of the Garosero YouTube channel.
In response, the family has countersued Kim Soo Hyun, accusing him of violating child protection laws and defamation. The legal battle between both sides is still ongoing.
