Police Reject Allegation That Kim Soo Hyun Dated Kim Sae Ron When She Was a Minor
Police have stated that the alleged voice recording of Kim Sae Ron was generated using AI, rejecting accusations that Kim Soo Hyun dated the actress when she was underage.
New developments surrounding the scandal involving Kim Soo Hyun and the late actress Kim Sae Ron have drawn significant attention in South Korea. According to the latest announcements from authorities, police have concluded that allegations claiming actor Kim Soo Hyun was romantically involved with Kim Sae Ron while she was still a minor are false.

According to documents related to an arrest warrant request submitted by the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul against Kim Se-ui, authorities stated that false information about Kim Soo Hyun was spread for financial gain, including revenue from YouTube content. The suspect allegedly “knew very well that Kim Soo Hyun did not date the late actress when she was a minor” but still disseminated false claims with the intent to defame the actor.
The investigation further concluded that KakaoTalk messages previously released by Kim Se-ui as evidence of the alleged relationship had been manipulated. Authorities said that after obtaining screenshots of conversations between Kim Sae Ron and an unidentified account from 2016, several details were altered, including changing the account name to “Kim Soo Hyun.”
Police also believe the suspect deliberately uploaded edited materials despite being unable to verify the identity of the original participant in the conversation. In addition, an audio recording allegedly featuring Kim Sae Ron, previously released by the Garo Sero Institute, was determined to have been fabricated using artificial intelligence (AI).
Authorities also revealed that a lawyer representing Kim Sae Ron’s family was arrested during the investigation. Police allege that the lawyer not only provided materials related to the accusations but also participated in the organized dissemination and exaggeration of false information.
Attorney Go Sang-rok, Kim Soo Hyun’s legal representative, stated on social media that the actor’s side did not directly file a complaint against the lawyer. However, he said investigators independently identified the possibility of accomplices during the investigation.
Police emphasized the severe impact the scandal has had on Kim Soo Hyun’s life and career, stating that it has damaged his professional activities, financial stability, and mental health. Authorities reportedly warned that continued dissemination of false information could cause irreparable harm.
Meanwhile, Kim Se-ui has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that prosecutors’ request for an arrest warrant is an attempt to suppress his journalistic activities.
On May 20, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office officially requested an arrest warrant for Kim Se-ui on multiple charges, including the illegal distribution of images.
A court hearing to review the validity of the arrest warrant is scheduled to take place on May 26 at the Seoul Central District Court under Chief Judge Boo Dong-sik.
It can be said that, with the latest developments in the personal scandal that first erupted in March last year, there are now positive signs for Kim Soo Hyun—an actor once regarded as one of South Korea’s top-tier stars. However, regardless of the final outcome, Kim Soo Hyun has already suffered significant damage as a result of this controversy.
