Authorities also filed for emergency protective measures, and the Seoul Central District Court approved a no-contact order. This order prevents Choi Jung-won from approaching A within 100 meters or contacting her through electronic means. Violating these restrictions carries penalties of up to one year in prison or fines up to 10 million KRW.
According to Dispatch, Choi Jung-won sent multiple threatening messages to his ex-girlfriend, including alarming statements such as, “One of us has to die to end this” and “You die, I die,” following A’s breakup notice. Despite these actions, Choi Jung-won maintains that his messages were misinterpreted and that he did not intend to threaten A directly.
Earlier, Choi Jung-won faced scrutiny over his alleged inappropriate behavior. He has previously been involved in a 2023 lawsuit related to an affair with a married woman, including legal counterclaims over defamation.
The police are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of Choi Jung-won’s actions. Netizens have expressed concern over the severity of the incidents and the safety of the victim, while Choi Jung-won has publicly denied malicious intent, stating that his references to self-harm were misread.
This case highlights growing attention to stalking and personal safety laws in South Korea, with strict measures in place to protect victims of repeated harassment and threats.
