Former EXO’s Kris Wu has been assigned to manage a group of prisoners in a prison.
Kris Wu has been assigned the task of managing a small group of prisoners in a prison, according to Chinese media. It is reported that Kris Wu has shown good rehabilitation awareness. On May 18th, 163 reported on Kris Wu’s life behind bars during the execution of his 13-year prison sentence. Despite facing initial difficulties, the former Chinese singer has fully adapted to his new living conditions at the Triều Dương prison in Beijing, China, and has maintained good physical and mental health.
163 stated that Kris Wu has let go of his identity as a famous personality and no longer expects preferential treatment from others as he did when he first entered prison. He now lives a simple life and is friendly with everyone. In the prison, Kris Wu does not enjoy any privileges and has to work for 8 hours a day while also participating in moral and educational classes.
According to a source shared with Chinese media, Kris Wu is responsible and principled. He utilizes his free time to compose music or entertain the prisoners through singing. As a result of his good rehabilitation progress and gaining trust from many people, Kris Wu has been included in the “honorary group” of the prison and has become the manager of a small group of prisoners.
The sexual assault case involving Kris Wu is still awaiting a final review. The former idol has appealed the 13-year prison sentence imposed by the court, as he disagrees with the ruling. Kris Wu believes that the sentence is too severe. Therefore, he is currently being held in temporary custody at the Triều Dương prison.
According to Sina, in the next court session, the court will review and deliver the final verdict. After the outcome is determined, Kris Wu will be transferred to the Yến Thành prison in Hà Bắc province to serve his sentence.
Yến Thành is a prison under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice in China. It provides better living conditions compared to the Triều Dương prison, with prisoners being provided wooden beds with warm bedding and spacious exercise areas for physical fitness training. Prisoners also engage in activities such as cultivating vegetables and working in clothing factories for garment processing.
Kris Wu was arrested at the end of July 2021 and was accused of coercing women into having sexual relationships.
In late November 2022, the District People’s Court of Triều Dương, Beijing, delivered a first-instance verdict on Kris Wu, sentencing him to 13 years of imprisonment. Additionally, after serving his prison term, Kris Wu will be deported from China.
Furthermore, he has been fined 83.7 million USD by the Beijing Taxation Bureau.
