Shocking Rumors Erupt Over Kris Wu’s Fate in Prison
Kris Wu, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison for participating in gang rape after being accused by his ex-girlfriend, is once again at the center of controversy. Recently, Chinese media reported that his prison term has been extended after he and his mother were found guilty of large-scale tax evasion, involving an estimated 300 million yuan.
According to NetEase (163), social media in China is currently in turmoil following rumors about Kris Wu’s health and safety after four years behind bars.
A top entertainment blogger alleged that Kris Wu has died in prison due to physical exhaustion after a prolonged hunger strike. The shocking claim quickly went viral online, sparking widespread panic among Chinese netizens. The rumor is particularly disturbing because Kris Wu has always been considered a “special inmate,” closely monitored by authorities from the time of his arrest, through trial, and throughout his imprisonment.
Chinese media outlets have reportedly reached out to the Chaoyang Police Department in Beijing, which was in charge of both of Kris Wu’s criminal cases, but have not yet received an official response. Major news agencies have also warned the public against spreading unverified information, reminding users that doing so could lead to legal consequences for causing social panic.
Online, Chinese netizens are expressing deep confusion and concern over the unconfirmed rumors of Kris Wu’s alleged death in prison.
The former pop idol is said to be in a miserable state. Not only is he incarcerated, but both his mother and cousin are also behind bars for their involvement in his financial crimes. After his mother — his only remaining supporter — was imprisoned, Kris Wu reportedly no longer receives family visits. His father has cut ties with him since divorcing his mother years ago.
In 2021, Kris Wu’s downfall became one of the most explosive scandals in Chinese entertainment history. Once a top-tier idol, the former EXO member was arrested in July 2021 after influencer Du Meizhu accused him of intoxicating and sexually assaulting her. Du claimed Wu used his fame to lure multiple young women — including minors — into sexual encounters.
Following an official investigation, authorities confirmed that Kris Wu had indeed engaged in criminal sexual conduct. Between November and December 2020, he sexually assaulted three intoxicated women at his home. In July 2018, he also hosted a group sex party involving his friends and two other women.
The case was held behind closed doors to protect underage victims’ identities. Kris Wu was ultimately sentenced to 13 years in prison and will be deported and banned from re-entering China for 10 years after serving his term. His appeal for a lighter sentence was rejected.
Since then, all details about Kris Wu’s imprisonment — including his living conditions or photos from prison — have been kept strictly confidential by Chinese authorities.
