According to Director Kwon, YouTuber A commented on the deceased’s posting of several photos taken with a wedding pictorial concept on her SNS in January, saying, “Kim Sae-ron self-deprecating again… Going into hiding after marriage rumors? He uploaded a video titled, “I contacted her directly.” In the video, Mr. A pointed out that he tried to contact her to hear her position but could not reach her, and that his sincerity regarding her self-reflection was questionable.
In fact, Mr. A has been criticized by netizens for taking down all of the videos related to Kim Sae-ron that he had uploaded to his channel or making them private after the news of Kim Sae-ron’s death was reported.
In response, Director Kwon criticized, “Mr. A previously uploaded a video on YouTube saying that he had received a tip that the deceased was working part-time at a cafe due to financial difficulties,” and “This kind of behavior is a serious invasion of privacy and increases mental pain.” He continued, “Anyone can make a mistake at least once, and (the deceased) was working part-time to make a living while reflecting on herself along with punishment. Regarding the deceased, Mr. A raised questions about her self-reflection and was criticized by other malicious YouTubers and the public.”
Director Kwon also said, “Videos related to the deceased have been deleted from Mr. A’s channel, but we are collecting related materials,” and “The bereaved family said they will contact us after the funeral. In the future, when the bereaved family files a complaint against A or files a complaint with the Press Arbitration Commission, we plan to provide various types of support free of charge,” he said.
Director Kwon said, “This incident makes us look back at the psychological pain that celebrities experience and the social pressure they face,” and added, “Celebrities are also human, and we need to acknowledge that they can make mistakes, and we need social support and understanding so that they can make a new start. Above all, we need to urgently establish institutional devices to prevent caused by malicious content.”
Director Kwon said, “Mr. A’s actions went beyond a simple competition for views; they destroyed a person’s life,” and urged, “Through this incident, we need to have a social discussion about protecting the privacy of celebrities and regulating malicious content.” He emphasized, “Our society needs to move in a better direction so that Kim Sae-ron’s tragic choice was not in vain.”
With the consent of the bereaved family, Director Kwon sent a photo of the deceased’s memorial to Ilgan Sports and asked for self-restraint in excessive reporting on the funeral.
Meanwhile, according to the police, Kim Sae-ron was found dead at her home in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu at around 4:54 pm on the 16th. A friend who was supposed to meet the deceased found her at her home and reported it to the police. There were no signs of a crime such as external intrusion.
The funeral has been prepared at Seoul Asan Medical Center, and the funeral is scheduled for 6:20 am on the 19th.
