On the February 16, Kim Sae-ron was found deceased at her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, with no suicide note or signs of a crime, leading police to classify it as an unnatural death. She had recently changed her name to Kim Ah-im and was preparing for a fresh start. A close acquaintance shared, “She was preparing to open a café with friends and was looking forward to returning to the entertainment industry. It’s hard to believe this tragic news.” Another insider added, “She had been struggling financially and found it difficult to cope with being out of work.”
Her career halted after a 2022 drunk driving accident that caused a blackout in Seoul’s Gangnam area. She was fined 20 million KRW (approximately 14,000 USD) and later struggled with debt after leaving her agency, making ends meet with part-time café work.
A wave of mourning followed her passing, with actor Won Bin personally attending her funeral despite his 15-year hiatus, paying his respects immediately after the funeral was set up, and repeatedly wiping away tears. His agency sent a condolence wreath in his and his wife Lee Na-young’s names. The two, who starred together in “The Man from Nowhere”, had to experience a tragic separation.
