Hyun Bin Appointed ‘Honorary Counterintelligence Agent’ by South Korea
Actor Hyun Bin has been appointed an “honorary counterintelligence agent” by the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
According to Star News, on April 7th, the NIS announced the appointment of Hyun Bin as an “honorary counterintelligence agent.” This appointment aims to raise public awareness of the concept of counterintelligence.
According to sources, counterintelligence encompasses all activities aimed at detecting, controlling, and preventing foreign intelligence activities that are contrary to national security and national interests. The NIS’s selection of Hyun Bin is seen as a move to leverage the influence of a famous artist to enhance awareness and spread the message about national security.
A representative from the Korean National Intelligence Service stated, “Recently, incidents such as leaks of advanced technology and defense industry secrets – factors threatening the nation’s survival – are occurring frequently, increasing the importance of counterintelligence work. In the future, the National Intelligence Service, along with ‘honorary counterintelligence agent’ Hyun Bin, will actively meet the public’s expectations through rigorous counterintelligence operations following the revision of the espionage law.”
Previously, the actor, born in 1982, played a National Intelligence Service agent in the film The Point Men (2023). The film tells the story of his efforts to rescue kidnapped Korean hostages.
Hyun Bin was born in 1982, his real name is Kim Tae Pyung. He began his acting career in the 2000s. With his striking looks and strong acting skills, the actor quickly rose to fame through a series of hit projects, most notably *The Snow Queen* and *Crash Landing on You*.
