Key Detail Revisited: The Moment Christine Dacera Was Carried Unresponsive Through the Hotel Corridor
Five years after the death of Filipino flight attendant and beauty pageant runner-up Christine Dacera, one particular moment captured on hotel surveillance footage continues to draw attention and raise questions.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 1, 2021, following a New Year’s Eve gathering at a Makati hotel. In the widely circulated CCTV clip, a man later identified as JP Dela Serna III is seen carrying Dacera down a hotel corridor. In the footage, her body appears rigid and unresponsive, with no visible movement or reaction as she is lifted and transported back toward another room.
At the time, Dela Serna stated that Dacera had suddenly leaned backward while they were leaving another room, prompting him to carry her to ensure her safety. He later told media outlets that additional surveillance footage would show her regaining composure after being returned, even claiming that she was able to stand and ring the doorbell of the room.
However, the image of Dacera being carried while seemingly unconscious became one of the most scrutinized pieces of evidence in the case. For many observers, it raised a critical question: was she already in medical distress — or worse — at the moment she was seen in the corridor?
This specific detail fueled early suspicions that Dacera may have suffered a fatal incident before being brought back to the hotel room where she was later found. Critics pointed out that her apparent lack of response in the footage could indicate a serious medical emergency occurring prior to her return. Others argued that intoxication alone might explain her condition at that moment.
In 2021, prosecutors from the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office stated that the evidence then available was insufficient to establish sexual assault or homicide, leading to the release of several individuals who had been initially detained. Authorities ultimately focused on medical findings in determining the official cause of death.

Despite official conclusions, the corridor footage remains a central and controversial visual in public discussions about the case. The sight of Dacera being carried while motionless continues to be cited by those who believe the timeline of events that night deserves deeper scrutiny.
As of 2026, while the legal proceedings related to the case have long concluded, the unanswered questions surrounding that brief but powerful moment in the hotel hallway continue to shape public perception. The footage stands as one of the most debated elements in the tragic death of Christine Dacera — a detail that, for many, remains difficult to reconcile.
