Kim Soo Hyun Set for Comeback After a Year of Controversy?
After nearly a year away from the spotlight, Kim Soo Hyun may finally be preparing for a return.
Since becoming embroiled in controversy, the actor’s public image has suffered significant damage. However, recent remarks from his legal representative have reignited speculation that his long-delayed series Knock-Off could soon see the light of day — potentially marking his official comeback.
Disney+ Reportedly Adjusting Release Schedule
Kim Soo Hyun plays Kim Seong-jun, whose stable life as an ordinary office worker is shattered by the 1997 Asian financial crisis, transforming him into the king of the global counterfeit market as he navigates unemployment, steps into the shadowy world of counterfeiting, and rises to become the vice president of the notorious ‘Saemmul Market’—a bustling hub of illicit trade—using his exceptional intellect, quick adaptability, and fierce ambition to dominate not just South Korea but the international counterfeit scene. His former lover, Song Hye-jeong, is a special judicial police officer tasked with cracking down on counterfeit goods, engaging him in a tense game of pursuit.
Attorney Go Sang Rok recently shared on social media:
“According to broadcasting and financial industry insiders, Disney+ is currently restructuring its key content lineup for the first half of 2026 and is reportedly adjusting the release schedule for Knock-Off. There was an article published about this today.”
He added that there is a “high likelihood the information is accurate.”
Earlier that same day, multiple media outlets reported that Disney+ is considering scheduling Knock-Off for release in the first half of 2026 as part of a broader content revamp. If confirmed, this would mean the once-postponed project is back on track.
A “Meaningful Gift” for the Actor?
Go Sang Rok further stated:
“If Knock-Off is released as expected in the first half of the year, it will serve as an answer to the unwavering voices and patient support of many fans.”
He also described the potential release as a “meaningful gift” for the actor, who, according to his legal team, has endured prolonged pressure amid what they maintain were false accusations and threatening behavior.
The Controversy That Halted Production
Knock-Off, an original series from Disney+, is set during the IMF financial crisis and follows the rise of a man who becomes a powerful figure in the counterfeit goods market.
The series was originally slated to premiere in April last year. However, production was suspended after allegations surfaced that Kim Soo Hyun had previously dated the late actress Kim Sae Ron while she was still a minor.
The controversy dealt a heavy blow to the actor’s reputation. Following a press conference addressing the allegations, Kim Soo Hyun largely disappeared from public view.
Now, with reports suggesting Knock-Off may finally be released, many are viewing the development as a significant signal that the actor could be making his long-awaited return to the entertainment industry.
