Police Raid Hotel, Emergency Arrest of Male Singer for Drug Possession
A well-known Korean singer has seen his public image collapse amid a shocking scandal after being emergency arrested in Japan on drug possession charges.
According to Koreaboo, on the afternoon of February 24, the Japanese police stormed a hotel where the artist was staying and found illegal substances, allegedly violating Japan’s Drug Control Law.
The officer’s search of the hotel room — where the singer, known professionally as Chancellor, stayed along with CEO JAKOPS and two employees of a major Japanese entertainment company, Avex — reportedly uncovered four packets of cocaine and one packet of marijuana. All four individuals were then taken into custody.
Authorities are currently working to determine how the drugs were obtained and whether there are other violations involved.
The incident reportedly happened shortly after Chancellor returned from a concert performed by popular girl group XG in Nagoya. JAKOPS is both a producer and the founder of the company that manages Chancellor and the group.
News of Chancellor’s arrest has shocked many fans in Korea, particularly because he just became a father three months ago.
Chancellor is not only a singer but also a songwriter and producer who graduated from the renowned Berklee College of Music. He was part of the hit-making duo Duble Sidekick and has collaborated with many top solo and K-pop acts.
He married a flight attendant three years younger than him in 2022, and the couple welcomed their first daughter late last year. Now he faces what might be the biggest crisis of his career.
