**Tragedy: Philippine Beauty Queen Shot Dead While Opening Door to Receive Flowers, Dies at Just 23**

Back in 2017, public opinion was shaken when Bulacan beauty queen **Mary Christine Balagtas** was brutally murdered in the Philippines. The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. on April 5, 2017. Two men arrived at Balagtasâ private residenceâabout 40 kilometers from Manilaâbringing fresh flowers and chocolates as a supposed gift. As the young beauty queen opened the door to accept the presents, one of the men suddenly pulled out a gun and shot her in the head.

Balagtas was only 23 years old and had not yet graduated from Regina Carmeli College in Bulacan. Immediately after the attack, the two suspects fled on a motorcycle. Neighbors reported seeing them in the area several days before the crime. In 2010, organizers merged Lakambini Bulacan with another competition to create a new pageant called Binibining Bulacan. Balagtas competed again and was once more crowned as a beauty queen.
