Actress Arden Cho, known for her role in the Netflix animation ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters,’ expressed support for Cha Eun Woo, who is currently facing allegations of tax evasion amounting to approximately 20 billion KRW (approx. 13.8 million USD).

On January 26, Cha Eun Woo addressed the allegations and questions regarding his military enlistment through an Instagram post.

He stated, “I am reflecting deeply on whether my approach to fulfilling my tax obligations has been sufficiently strict. Although I am currently serving in the military, my enlistment was not intended to avoid this controversy. Last year, I reached a point where I could no longer postpone my enlistment, and I entered military service without completing the tax investigation process.”

He continued, “If I were not serving as a soldier, I would personally apologize to everyone affected by this situation. I will fully cooperate with the upcoming tax procedures and humbly accept the final decisions made by the relevant authorities, taking responsibility accordingly.”

Aden Cho commented on Cha Eun Woo’s post, writing, “Always supporting you dongseng, Hwaiting!”

Meanwhile, the Seoul Regional Tax Office conducted an intensive tax investigation on Cha Eun Woo in the first half of 2025, notifying him of approximately 20 billion KRW in additional income taxes, which is the largest amount ever assessed in the Korean entertainment industry. The tax authorities claimed that Cha Eun Woo and his mother attempted to reduce their taxes by 45% by using a paper company to apply a corporate tax rate over 20% lower than the personal income tax rate.

Cha Eun Woo’s agency, Fantagio, denied the allegations, stating, “The main issue is whether the company established by Cha Eun Woo’s mother qualifies as a substantive tax entity. This matter has not been finalized with a confirmed assessment.”
