The Tragedy After a Fall: Actor Run Over by Truck, Two Years in Surgery Just to Survive
The life of this handsome actor turned tragic after being hit by a truck while walking.
Chen Xuedong abruptly stopped acting in 2023 claiming a broken leg after a car accident. In reality, the actor from Tiny Time had been run over — his foot crushed by a truck.
Silently, he travelled to the United States for treatment to prevent his injured leg from being amputated — not only to save his foot, but to save his life.
Over the past two years, he has undergone four surgeries, but still cannot walk normally. Now he can only move using crutches or a wheelchair.
According to Sohu, his current situation is heart-breaking. He is alone in the U.S., with no family around — forced to hire caregivers to help him cook, buy daily necessities, and even with basic personal hygiene.
He says he can’t handle things alone anymore: one wrong move, and it’s like going back to square one — losing all chance of recovery.
Back in March 2023, the runaway truck struck him while he walked on the sidewalk. His right leg was crushed so severely that X-rays showed the bones around his ankle shattered “like broken glass.” At the time, doctors warned he might end up confined to a wheelchair with permanent rheumatoid-arthritis–like complications.
To save his leg, doctors inserted 12 titanium alloy nails into his foot bones and used steel plates internally and externally to stabilize the fracture. Since then he has endured surgery after surgery and rehab therapy — up to six hours a day — in desperate hope of regaining mobility.
A nurse reportedly even cried seeing his condition. She said each day he clenched his teeth, trying to move a pair of legs that felt like “blocks of iron.” The pain was so intense, he compared it to someone pulling on his tendons with pliers; every time the weather changed he would endure agony “as if ants were gnawing inside his bones.” For two years, he hid the truth from his fans to avoid causing worry.
Born in 1990, this A-list actor’s life has been one of the hardest in Chinese showbiz. Abandoned by his parents at age seven after they divorced, his grandparents took him in — but soon they died. A relative tried to care for him, but poverty forced him to be sent to a boarding school. Later he even lived temporarily with a teacher.
As an adult, he moved to Shanghai to become a model and chase a better life. Despite his looks and potential, his career has been tragically unlucky. Coincidentally, every co-star he worked with eventually fell into scandal and was blacklisted or disappeared from the industry.
