Running Man Star Yang Se Chan Reveals 12-Year Battle with Thyroid Cancer
The health condition of Running Man star Yang Se Chan has sparked deep concern among fans.
On the morning of October 16, Koreaboo reported that popular South Korean comedian Yang Se Chan, known for his role on Running Man, recently appeared in a teaser for the upcoming episode of Problem Child in House. In the video, the comedian made a shocking confession — he has been battling papillary thyroid cancer for the past 12 years. He also revealed that he still relies on medication to manage his condition.
Yang Se Chan first discovered the illness during a routine health check-up back in 2013. “I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer 12 years ago,” he recalled. “At the time, I went for a health screening with a group of fellow comedians. I was in the middle of rehearsals for Comedy Big League when the hospital called with the results. I didn’t even have time to be sad — my colleagues tried their best to comfort and encourage me.”
The comedian went on to share that fatigue was one of the major warning signs of his illness: “Once, I went to work after sleeping for 10 hours straight, but I still couldn’t stop yawning during filming. That was my body signaling that something was wrong.”
Actor Jin Tae Hyun, who was a guest on Problem Child in House, expressed his sympathy: “For about three or four years, I used to feel exhausted every afternoon. After undergoing surgery, that constant fatigue finally disappeared.”
Yang Se Chan’s revelation has quickly become a trending topic on Korean social media. Fans have flooded online communities with messages wishing him a full recovery and hoping he can live healthily without relying on medication.
Born in 1986, Yang Se Chan began his entertainment career at 19 and has since become one of Korea’s most recognized comedians. In April 2017, he gained widespread fame across Asia after joining the main cast of Running Man. Despite his long battle with thyroid cancer, Yang has continued to radiate optimism and deliver positive energy to audiences throughout his career.
