Kim Soo Hyun Cries Foul: “The Messages Were Fake!”
On October 13, Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team spoke through Money Today, firmly denying allegations that the actor had sent inappropriate messages to the late actress Kim Sae Ron when she was only 16.
According to claims made by Kim Sae Ron’s family, messages such as “Kiss me later” and “Is this forbidden too?” were allegedly sent by Kim Soo Hyun in June 2016, suggesting that the two had been romantically involved since 2015, when Kim Sae Ron was still in middle school.
However, Kim Soo Hyun’s representatives disproved the accusations using verified filming schedules. During June 2016, Kim Soo Hyun was in the final filming stages of his movie Real, shooting 18 days that month (June 2, 6–9, 11, 13–15, 19–22, 25–26, 28–30).
Notably, the alleged text exchanges on June 22, 25, and 26 coincided exactly with his packed filming schedule.
Filming took place in Yeongjongdo, Incheon, where he worked from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The commute from his home in Seongsudong, Seoul took two hours each way, meaning he had to leave at 6 a.m. and often returned near midnight.
Under such a schedule, his team argued, it was impossible for Kim Soo Hyun to maintain romantic contact or secretly meet anyone.
Kim’s legal team accused Kim Sae Ron’s family of fabricating and misattributing the 2016 messages.
Internal records from the Real film crew confirmed the June 25 schedule was generated on June 24 — proof the timeline was real.
A staff member testified, “He barely had time to rest, let alone date anyone. Every day he shot water action scenes and went home only to sleep a few hours before heading back to set.”

In addition, alleged messages from April 2018 have also been proven false. One message supposedly read:
“We’re meeting Thursday (April 5), right? I miss you and want to see you. I’ll be done around 9 after the gym.”
Yet military records show Kim Soo Hyun was in active combat training from April 2–5, 2018 — making the messages impossible.
Despite months passing, the lawsuit between Kim Soo Hyun, the Garo Sero Institute, and Kim Sae Ron’s family remains at a standstill. Police have declined to comment further, and no trial date has been set.
While the truth behind Kim Sae Ron’s tragic death and the allegations against Kim Soo Hyun remains unresolved, the controversy has already destroyed his public image and financial stability.
The actor faces ₩7.3 billion (approx. $5.3 million) in brand compensation claims, plus potential penalties from Disney+ ranging from ₩18 billion to ₩180 billion.
In July, reports surfaced that Kim Soo Hyun had sold a $6.1 million apartment to pay legal and settlement costs. Meanwhile, his agency Gold Medalist faces financial fraud allegations, with Kim himself accused of possible involvement.
Since his tearful press conference in March, Kim Soo Hyun has disappeared from the public eye. Rumors suggest he is either hiding abroad or quietly living in Korea under the radar, with no plans to return to showbiz anytime soon.
However, in late September, lawyer Ko Sang Rok reignited the case — publicly refuting all underage dating accusations and revealing Kim Soo Hyun’s personal army journal, in which the actor repeatedly mentions a girlfriend who was not Kim Sae Ron.
Ko also asserted that the photos released by Kim Sae Ron’s family and the Garo Sero Institute were taken after 2019, when Kim Sae Ron had already entered college.
Despite the family’s claim to possess “thousands of photos” proving the alleged relationship, no concrete evidence has surfaced in over six months.
Lawyer Ko emphasized:
“This is a case of fabricated evidence and defamation meant to destroy Kim Soo Hyun’s reputation.
Clearing his name is not just about protecting one actor—it’s about restoring justice.”
As the investigation drags on, one thing remains certain: Kim Soo Hyun’s career may never fully recover, regardless of how the truth unfolds.
