Lee Dong-wook was suddenly criticized by Chinese netizens just because of a cake.
The controversy that Chinese Internet users criticized actor Lee Dong-wook’s past remarks on mooncakes was found to have been a happening caused by misunderstanding.
Recently, reports continued on Chinese social media such as Weibo that Lee Dong-wook’s past remarks became a hot topic recently.
The comments were a conversation Lee Dong-wook had with some Chinese fans on an online platform bubble that communicates with fans during the Chuseok holiday last year.
When Chinese fans asked, “Do you eat mooncakes on holidays in Korea?” Lee Dong-wook replied, “Korea does not eat mooncakes,” adding an eye-opening emoticon.
In particular, he said, “(Korea and China) have different ways to spend holidays,” adding, “Stop talking about mooncakes. We eat songpyeon,” he added.

The issue is not a recent one, but a controversy that arose in China last year on Chuseok, when Lee Dong-wook shared his opinions with fans.
At the time, Chinese fans did not say, “Korea does not eat mooncakes,” but took issue with the emoticon that was attached after it. In China, the emoticon is mainly used in a sarcastic tone, so Lee Dong-wook misunderstood that he was sarcastic with his Chinese fans.
After the message became an issue, local fans evolved to say, “Korea does not use the emoticon in a sarcastic sense,” and it has already ended with “Happening.”
Now, some Chinese fans are leaving posts on Weibo such as “Why is it reported belatedly in Korea when it was last year?” and “What happened due to the difference in the use of emoticons between the two countries.”
Meanwhile, Lee Dong-wook is currently appearing in the JTBC Friday series “Good Guy.”
