Thailand-Cambodia military clash, F-16s scrambled

An armed clash between Thailand and Cambodia broke out in a disputed area along the border on the morning of July 24, with each side accusing the other of opening fire first.
Military and civilian casualties were reported.
Cambodia used rocket artillery to launch airstrikes, while Thailand dispatched F-16 fighter jets to attack ground targets.
The Royal Thai Army condemned Cambodia’s “violent” actions, while Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen said two Cambodian provinces had been attacked by the Thai army and called for calm.
“F-16s have opened fire!” – the Thai army posted on social media.
The statement said Cambodia’s 8th and 9th Special Military Region Commands “have been destroyed.”
Earlier, Thailand said it had deployed six F-16 fighter jets to attack military targets after two missiles from Cambodia hit a Thai residential area near the border.
The Thai military said the F-16s attacked two Cambodian military targets.
“We used our air force to attack military targets as planned,” Thai army deputy spokeswoman Richa Suksuwanon told reporters.
Tensions are running high.
