There were 60 passengers and 4 crew members on board a passenger flight that crashed into the Potomac River after colliding while approaching Reagan National Airport, American Airlines told CNN.
Flight 5342 was operated by PSA Regional, a regional airline that operates flights on behalf of American Airlines.
“We have received information that American Eagle Flight 5342, operated by PSA, en route from Wichita, Kansas (ICT) to Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) was involved in an incident,” American Airlines said in a statement.
US confirms military helicopter involved
A US Army Blackhawk (H-60) helicopter collided with a passenger plane near Washington, according to US defense officials.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane involved in the crash was American Airlines Flight 5342, which was en route from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, DC.
A passenger plane crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport in the suburbs of Washington, DC, CNN reported, citing the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Agency. The incident forced the closure of Reagan Airport, suspending all takeoffs and landings.
DC police have now confirmed that there were no survivors of the tragedy, and the bodies of 40 victims have been recovered.
