Kwon Sang Woo had to have a piece of liver the size of a palm removed, lying alone in the hospital without his wife and children by his side
The public was heartbroken by the new news related to actor Kwon Sang Woo.
On the evening of January 20, actor Kwon Sang Woo appeared on YouTube channel Jjan-han hyung Shin Dong Yup to promote the upcoming movie Hitman 2. Here, the famous actor suddenly shared the story of his surgery to remove a piece of liver the size of a palm: “I discovered that I had a hemangioma in my liver during a general health check-up. The doctor showed me a photo of my liver and informed me that the hospital had removed a piece of liver the size of a palm.”
The actor of Stairway to Heaven said that he urgently performed liver surgery after listening to the doctor’s advice: “My father passed away early from liver cancer. The doctor told me, ‘If the tumor grows larger than 10cm, you will need a major surgery.’ And the doctor advised me to have the tumor removed when it grew to 6cm if my schedule allows.”
According to Kwon Sang Woo, he felt very lonely at the time of the surgery because he did not have his wife and children by his side: “I was filming in Korea, and my family lived in the United States. So, I did not make a big deal out of it and had the surgery alone before starting to film Hitman 2. I was in the hospital for quite a while, but because my wife and children were overseas at the time, I felt very lonely. The doctor said that my liver was abnormally large. Even after 30% was removed, my liver was still the same size as a normal person’s liver. I started filming Hitman 2 after I recovered.”
It is known that Son Tae Young (Kwon Sang Woo’s wife) and her children are currently living in the US, while the Kwon actor works in Korea and visits his family in the US during his free time.
According to Kwon Sang Woo, he felt extremely lonely during the time he underwent liver surgery because he did not have his wife and children by his side.
5 years ago, Kwon Sang Woo also underwent surgery after an incident on set. Specifically, the actor ruptured his Achilles tendon – a tendon located behind the ankle, helping to flex and extend the foot – and the cause came from an accident while performing an action scene on the set of The Pirates: Goblin Flag in November 2020.
