According to Sohu, the patient in the photo was not the Gen Z actress but rather Xu Dongdong, an actress from an earlier generation. The image originated from 2019, when Xu Dongdong was rushed to the hospital following life-threatening complications from breast cyst removal surgery at a cosmetic surgery center. At that time, Xu was in a critical state—unconscious, with unstable blood pressure and heart rate. She remained in a coma for two days before regaining consciousness.
The confusion arose after Zhao Lusi’s management failed to promptly provide accurate updates on her condition. Some opportunists exploited the situation by misattributing Xu Dongdong’s 2019 photo to Zhao Lusi, creating sensationalized headlines and seeking attention on social media. This behavior was harshly criticized by Chinese media, which condemned the spread of misinformation and the exploitation of a celebrity’s health struggles for clicks.
Zhao Lusi’s Battle with Mental Health
