Kim Jaejoong’s Biological Parents File Paternity Lawsuit After Abandoning Him
Kim Jaejoong’s rise to global stardom is marked by success and the revelation of a deeply personal family history.
The extraordinary journey of Kim Jaejoong, a global superstar and original member of the legendary K-pop group TVXQ, continues to capture public interest. While his rise to fame cemented his status as an icon, the revelation of a complex family history added a dramatic layer to his already compelling story.
Kim Jaejoong’s career took off when he debuted with TVXQ, quickly becoming one of the most influential idol groups in K-pop history. With his striking visuals, vocal prowess, and magnetic stage presence, Jaejoong won the hearts of fans both in South Korea and internationally. However, during the peak of his career, a deeply personal matter surfaced, drawing widespread attention.
When Jaejoong entered the spotlight, he was introduced as the youngest son in a family with 8 older sisters. But in 2006, it was revealed that he had been adopted into that family. This revelation came to light when his biological mother filed a paternity lawsuit. The timing of the lawsuit, coinciding with TVXQ’s immense popularity, led many to question her intentions, sparking significant public backlash.
According to reports, Jaejoong’s biological mother claimed that she had faced difficult circumstances after his birth, prompting her to entrust him to an acquaintance while keeping an eye on him from a distance. However, in 2003, she lost contact with him, only to later discover that her son had become a member of TVXQ. This discovery motivated her to attempt a reunion after two decades of separation.
The situation was further complicated by legal issues. Due to incomplete adoption procedures, Jaejoong’s name appeared on two separate family registers. This legal anomaly required resolution when he prepared for military enlistment, leading him to file a “non-existence of biological parent-child relationship” lawsuit. Unfortunately, the media’s focus on the term “paternity lawsuit” painted his biological mother’s intentions in a negative light, drawing even more criticism.
Despite the controversy, it has been reported that Jaejoong’s biological and adoptive parents maintain a positive relationship. Nevertheless, given his global fame, fans couldn’t help but question the motivations behind his biological parents’ actions.
In a recent appearance on a YouTube channel hosted by Kangnam, Jaejoong’s lasting influence on K-pop was highlighted. Kangnam remarked, “These days, I sometimes work in Japan, and K-pop is such a dominant force. I think it’s all thanks to artists like you. Because of that, I’m able to earn money in Japan.” Kangnam’s mother added, “Back then, TVXQ was so popular that everyone, from young children to grandmothers, loved them. Even though I wasn’t their parent, I felt proud enough to puff out my chest.”
Jaejoong’s professional endeavors continue to thrive. He recently debuted the girl group “Say My Name” as their producer. Additionally, he has reunited with fellow TVXQ member Kim Junsu to form the duo JX. The two artists, marking their 21st debut anniversary, have embarked on an Asia tour titled IDENTITY, reigniting excitement among their long-time fans.
