A Shocking Comment from Lee Hyori’s Mother-in-Law About Her Struggles with Infertility After 11 Years of Marriage
Lee Hyori candidly shares her struggles with infertility, family aspirations, and the unwavering support from her husband and mother-in-law.
In 2020, during her appearance on MBC’s “Hangout with Yoo” as a member of SSAK3, Lee Hyori openly discussed her plans for pregnancy, even jokingly asking for a box of pregnancy tests as a farewell gift.
Later, when she returned to the show as part of “Refund Sisters,” Lee Hyori revealed, “This is a secret, but I’m preparing for pregnancy. I think I need to let the members know. The group will disband as soon as I get pregnant,” emphasizing her intentions with a humorous contract condition.
However, two years later, on MBC Every1’s “That Man Who I Remember,” Lee Hyori shared her struggles with infertility. She stated, “I don’t want to go as far as trying IVF. If it happens naturally, I’d be grateful, but it’s not easy.”

On JTBC’s variety show “Mom, Will You Go on a Trip with Me?,” Lee Hyori expressed her longing for children while watching kids on an outing, saying, “It would be nice to have a daughter like that, already grown up.” Her mother chimed in, encouraging her to “have one,” but Lee Hyori replied, “I can’t now; it’s too late.”
Her mother insisted, “You should at least try as hard as everyone else before saying it’s not possible,” but Lee Hyori reaffirmed, “I don’t want to go through IVF.”
Recently, Lee Hyori’s mother-in-law and the mother of her husband, musician Lee Sang Soon, appeared on the YouTube channel “Life is Nothing Special” and shared thoughts about her daughter-in-law and son.

When asked about not having grandchildren and whether she would like to have them, Lee Sang-soon’s mother said, “It would be nice to have grandchildren. It’s a good thing, but I’ve come to terms with it now because we’re getting older.” She added, “When I visited their new house after they moved, it was so spacious and beautiful. I thought, ‘It would be perfect for a child to grow up here.’ The yard would be great for raising kids. I really thought it would be wonderful to have a child around.”
She mentioned telling Lee Hyori this, to which Hyori replied, “You’re right, Mother.” The mother-in-law added with a laugh, “While I’ve given up, I don’t know if they’ve given up on having a child.”
Reflecting on her first impression of Lee Hyori, the mother-in-law said, “Her first impression was good, but because she’s so famous, I felt a bit burdened.” She continued, “But she has a way of being honest and creating a comfortable atmosphere, which eased the burden. She speaks openly without holding anything back.” She also commented, “I wondered if someone as famous as her could really become my daughter-in-law.”
When asked who seems to love the other more between Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon, the mother-in-law said it was Lee Hyori. “From what I see, Hyori seems to love him more. My son doesn’t show his emotions much, but Hyori expresses her feelings 100%. You can tell everything just by looking at how she talks and looks at him,” she explained.
Interestingly, in a past episode of KBS’s “The Korean Table,” natural food researcher Park Jong-sook introduced various natural dishes. Beside her, Yoon Jeong-hee, Lee Hyori’s mother-in-law, drew attention while assisting with the cooking. Park Jong-sook said, “This is Lee Hyori’s mother-in-law. She loves cooking so much that she has been learning from me for over a year.” When host Choi Bool-am asked why she was learning to cook, Yoon Jeong-hee replied, “Because Hyori practices vegetarianism, I wanted to prepare natural dishes for her.”
After getting married in 2013, Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon lived in Jeju but recently relocated to Pyeongchang-dong, Seoul. With their fresh start, renewed interest in their family story has captivated fans once again.
