Park Sung-hoon “Transgender Role, Joins Game Due to Lack of Funds for Gender-Affirming Surgery” (Squid Game 2)
The actors who joined Netflix’s “Squid Game” Season 2 introduced their characters
On the morning of December 9, the press conference for Netflix’s series “Squid Game” Season 2 was held at the Art Hall of Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Eulji-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk was joined by actors Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-joon, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-shim, Lee Seo-hwan and Jo Yu-ri.
Park Sung-hoon introduced his character Hyun-ju, “She is a transgender individual who wishes to undergo gender-affirming surgery but cannot afford it, leading her to enter the game. She is a righteous person who is altruistic, brave and has leadership.”
Im Si-wan described his character Myung-gi as “a cryptocurrency investment expert who becomes entangled in a crypto scam, causing massive losses to his subscribers. On the run from creditors, he joins the game out of desperation“. Kang Ha-neul shared about his role Dae-ho, “He is a sociable and overly friendly guy. After hearing Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) mention that he has played the game before, he starts following him and experiences various situations. Please also look forward to the chemistry between Dae-ho and Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).“
Park Gyu-young introduced her character No-eul as “a mother desperate to find her lost daughter. She struggles with guilt over losing her child and is determined to reunite with her child. Please watch the show to see the choices she makes to earn the money she needs“. Lee Jin-wook portrayed his character as “the most ordinary participant in the game. He enters to pay for his daughter’s medical treatment as she battles paediatric cancer. He’s a pitiful and heartbreaking character“.
“Squid Game” Season 2 tells the story of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the deadly game seeking revenge, and his confrontation with the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). The series is set to premiere on Netflix on December 26.
