They carried out a Ponzi scheme by using deposits from new customers to pay off the principal of old customers, maintain business operations and share profits with each other. According to the police, this fraud scheme can only be maintained when new investors continuously pour money in. Once there are no more investors, this scheme will collapse. Notably, the police said they cannot confiscate any of the fraudulent money from Group A after the raid.
The authorities also confirmed that there is enough basis to prosecute comedian Lee. According to Korean law, the actor faces a prison sentence of 6 months to 2 and a half years.
