Hong Kong Actor Xu Shao Qiang and His Wife Pass Away Suddenly
Famous Hong Kong actor Xu Shao Qiang has passed away due to cancer. Tragically, his wife also passed away shortly afterward.
On September 15th, Sohu reported that Xu Shao Qiang’s daughter announced that he had passed away earlier this month at the age of 74. The reason for the family’s delayed announcement of the sad news is that his wife, while arranging his funeral, also passed away from a heart condition. The couple’s passing together has made it even more difficult for the family.
“Thank you, everyone, for your concern. We hope you can give our family time to deal with this grief,” said Xu Shao Qiang’s son on behalf of the family, expressing gratitude for the condolences from colleagues and artists.
According to the director and chairman of the Hong Kong Filmmakers’ Association, Xu Shao Qiang married a woman 30 years younger than him from Mainland China in 2005. In the last years of his life, the *Seven Swordsmen* star lived in Beijing.
Xu Shao Qiang was born in 1950 and was famous for his villain roles in Hong Kong cinema. He is known for works such as *Seven Swordsmen*, *Heavenly Silk Transformation*, *The Gallant Knights*, *The Sui and Tang Dynasties*, *The Great Steward*, *Fist of Fury: Chen Zhen*, *Wudang 2*, *The Return of the Condor Heroes* (1998), and *The Beggar So*.
His most iconic villain role was in *The Beggar So*, where he co-starred with Stephen Chow.
After relocating to Mainland China, Xu took on supporting roles in films like *Holding Hands Forever*, *New Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio*, *The Storm of Ban Na*, *Detective Dee 2022*, and *Silent Pursuit*. At the time of his death, he had filmed six projects that have yet to be aired.
Xu Shao Qiang was known for his good looks and was considered quite a playboy, having several high-profile relationships in the past. One of these involved actress Yuet Lei, famous for her portrayal of Li Mochou in *The Return of the Condor Heroes* (1995). She was so infatuated with Xu that she was willing to have his child, despite him already being married with children at the time.
According to Sohu, Xu Shao Qiang married his first wife, Zhang Xiaofeng, in 1975, but they divorced after four years. In 1980, he remarried He Shu Kuan, with whom he had a son, Xu Yidong.
At the time, Yuet Lei was only 15 years old when she began working with Xu Shao Qiang and fell in love with him. At the age of 18, she gave birth to his son. Xu eventually left his wife to be with Yuet Lei, and they had a daughter together, but their relationship only lasted a few years before they went their separate ways. Yuet Lei took on the responsibility of raising both children.
After marrying his Chinese wife, Xu Shao Qiang reportedly changed and became a model husband and father.
