Baseball Commentator Lee Kwang-gil Hurriedly Apologized For Spreading Hwang Jae-gyun & Jiyeon Divorce Rumor
The commentator who mentioned Hwang Jae-gyun and Jiyeon’s divorce rumor on a live broadcast made an apology
On June 26th, Xports News exclusively reported an interview with Lee Kwang-gil, KNN PowerFM commentator who raised rumors of Hwang Jae-gyun and Jiyeon’s divorce.
Accordingly, the commentator repeatedly apologized for his remarks.
He said, “I read it somewhere in the newspaper and just said it on the broadcast. It was my fault because I didn’t even check the facts first”, reflecting on himself. He added, “I was disappointed that he (Hwang Jae-gyun) didn’t show his skills properly and misunderstood the situation”.
The commentator said he called Hwang Jae-gyun and made an apology directly to the baseball player.
Earlier on June 25th, commentator Lee had a conversation with a caster during the break between the innings of a baseball game broadcast. He said, “You know what? Hwang Jae-gyun is going to divorce”, adding that Hwang Jae-gyun’s performance was not good. This talk was aired live via a visible YouTube channel radio.
Later, the castor noticed the problem and immediately apologized in the next inning, saying “Everyone, that’s a rumor, not official news”. Commentator Lee also apologized on the broadcast after recognizing his mistake.
However, the divorce rumor spread rapidly online. Eventually, Jiyeon had to temporarily suspend her YouTube activities as the rumor intensified and officially confirmed that it was “groundless”.
Meanwhile, Jiyeon and Hwang Jae-gyun got married in December 2022.
