“Queen of Tears” Kim Kap-soo “Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won are really great, Kim Soo-hyun is the best among his peers”
“I thought, ‘Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, these friends will continue to lead Korean works in the future'”
We met actor Kim Kap-soo, who finished his journey in tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Queen of Tears” a little earlier than other actors. “Queen of Tears” depicts the dizzying crisis and miraculous rekindling of love between Hong Hae-in (played by Kim Ji-won), a third-generation chaebol heiress of Queens Group, and Baek Hyun-woo (played by Kim Soo-hyun), the son of farmers from Yongdu-ri, and their three years of marriage. In the drama, Kim Kap-soo played Hong Man-dae, the chairman of Queens Group.
Kim Kap-soo faced a lingering death in the work. Regarding the title of “the man who must die” that has once again been proven this time, he smilingly said, “Viewers were upset when I didn’t die. Now, people only feel happy when I say I’m going to die. A strange situation happened.”
In the interview, Kim Kap-soo spared no compliments for his junior actors with whom he worked together. In particular, he said he sent a text message praising Kim Soo-hyun immediately after the first episode of the drama aired.
“I sent a text message to Kim Soo-hyun after watching the first and second episodes. ‘Soo-hyun, you’re really great. Among your peers, you’re the best.’ I sent him a text message like that. That guy was really great. This work may seem simple, but it’s actually a complicated one. Although it could be heavy, it was written by the writer in a profound way, and the actors are intertwining it without making it too heavy. From that perspective, it was really well written, and I told Soo-hyun, ‘You’re really great.’ I thought that this friend will continue to lead Korean works in the future. As for Kim Ji-won, I saw her for the first time in ‘Descendants of the Sun’. At that time, I just thought, ‘She’s pretty, and she acts cleanly.’ Then I worked with her this time. There is a scene where only the two of us meet. At that moment, she expressed various emotions. She expressed the sense of responsibility that only Hae-in has. At that moment, I felt grateful for no reason. That this child does well. Through this work, I thought, ‘You will also lead Korean works.’ (laugh)“
