The 27-year-old rising actress suddenly discovered that she was actually a man after going to the doctor before marrying her boyfriend!
According to QQ, rising actress specializing in web dramas, Ly Vien, discovered that she is a man after going to the doctor. This rare incident is making the actress’s fans confused.
Accordingly, Ly Vien, 27 years old, is about to marry her boyfriend of nearly 2 years. In addition, she and her boyfriend have not used contraception for several months because they wanted to have a child soon but failed, making her worried. Following a friend’s recommendation, she went to Hubei Maternal and Child Health Hospital (Hubei, China) for pre-marital examination.
Dr. Doan Giai, Head of the Obstetrics Department of the hospital, said that the test results of sex hormones and FSH – a type of follicle stimulating hormone, are produced from the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland in Ly Vien’s brain, all have problems. She herself believes that this case is not as simple as premature ovarian failure or primary amenorrhea, but is most likely a congenital adrenal disorder.
Therefore, Ly Vien was conducted a series of other in-depth tests such as adrenal function tests, chromosomes, 17-OHP, gynecological B ultrasound and whole-exome genetic testing. After nearly a month of anxious waiting, Ly Vien was mentally prepared to receive a diagnosis of difficulty conceiving or even infertility due to abnormalities in the uterus and ovaries, but she did not expect what the doctor would say. Actually she is a man. It turned out that Ly Vien actually suffered from 46xy 17α-hydroxylase deficiency, a rare disease of congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
Dr. Doan Giai explained: “Congenital adrenal hyperplasia is an autosomal recessive genetic disease. Both parents carry the recessive gene that causes the disease. Each child has a 1 in 4 chance of testing positive for the disease. The disease can be determined through prenatal diagnosis at specialized hospitals to determine whether the fetus has the disease or not. Screening for newborn diseases must be done after the baby is born for early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment.
Ly Vien’s social gender is female, but her biological sex through chromosomes is male. For people with a 46XY male karyotype like Ly Vien, a deficiency in the enzyme 46xy 17α-hydroxylase prevents the body from producing enough male hormones to develop typical male sexual characteristics. Therefore, these people may have unclear or deviant gender characteristics, living in the wrong gender.”
In addition, due to not being detected and treated early, Ly Vien’s congenital adrenal hyperplasia also caused her to have a serious vitamin D deficiency, leading to severe osteoporosis. “Because she lived as a woman for 27 years, Ly Vien looks like a woman. However, Ly Vien has no ovaries or menstruation, a congenitally deformed uterus and is completely incapable of pregnancy.
Instead, Ly Vien had undescended testicles in his abdomen that had testicular tissue dysplasia and could easily become cancerous and had to be removed as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Ly Vien is more likely to suffer from infection and ischemia during surgery. Along with the risk of adrenal insufficiency, life is also more threatened than usual” – Dr. Doan Giai added.
The truth about gender and the dangerous disease caused Ly Vien a serious mental crisis. It took nearly 2 months, with the encouragement of her family, to return to the hospital to undergo laparoscopic gonadectomy. Three days after surgery, she was discharged from the hospital and treated with outpatient medication. Currently, Ly Vien is still taking hormone-regulating drugs as well as having long-term regular check-ups at the Department of Endocrinology and Obstetrics Department.
Ly Vien herself said that many months have passed but she still cannot accept the fact that she is a man. The disease has caused her to have a female appearance and for the past 27 years, deep down inside, she will still consider herself female.
