“Lovely Runner” was criticized by Korean netizens and asked to stop broadcasting!
Lovely Runner is adapted from an online novel called Tomorrow’s Best, written by the screenwriter of True Beauty. The film tells the story of Im Sol (Kim Hye Yoon) – a girl who had an incident where her legs were paralyzed and lost her motivation to live. But after listening to the radio that Ryu Sun Jae (Byeon Woo Seok) participated in, she gradually became more optimistic and idolized him.
But after a while of becoming his fan, she received news that he had ended his life, something she could not accept. Unexpectedly, she was returned to 2008, when the two of them attended high school at opposite schools. Im Sol is determined to protect her idol.
At the time of announcing the broadcast schedule, Lovely Runner was said to be taking advantage of the life of late idol Jonghyun. Because the male lead of the movie is an idol and has a similar life. The time the character returns to the past is 2008, the year SHINee debuted. The movie aired its first episode on April 8 – Jonghyun’s birthday. Many fans asked Lovely Runner to stop airing because it reminded the sad events of Jonghyun fans in particular and K-Pop fans in general.
Even though the producer denied that the film was adapted from an online novel and was not based on any real characters or events, netizens still continued to criticize.
Not only that, knet has gathered a petition asking tvN to temporarily stop broadcasting the movie to review related factors.
