BREAKING | Famous male singer INFINITE’s Nam Woo Hyun has cancer, possibly losing his career forever.

On the morning of November 28, TheKoreaTimes reported that famous male singer Nam Woo Hyun (INFINITE) was diagnosed with gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). This is a rare cancer, with an incidence of about 1/100,000 people.
In an exclusive interview with TheKoreaTimes, Nam Woo Hyun revealed that he initially wanted to hide his illness from his fans. Besides, the male singer revealed that he had undergone surgery: “In my case, the surgery cannot be delayed. Therefore, in January-February this year, I accelerated the work progress, urgently… withdrew from organizing fan events before the surgery.”
The INFINITE member recalled the difficult time after the surgery: “I had to abstain from drinking water for nearly 3 weeks. A 20cm long scar appeared on my abdomen. In addition, I also had to have a blood transfusion.”
Notably, Nam Woo Hyun suddenly admitted that he might lose his career after the surgery: “The doctor said I might not be able to regain my singing voice like before. The artistic path suddenly became difficult.” It’s 4-5 times harder because I now have breathing problems when performing on stage. It’s still too early to return to music but I still want to quickly stand on stage. I want to show my fans I feel like I’m gradually recovering.”
Besides, the male singer born in 1991 did not forget to thank his family and the medical team who were by his side during the difficult period: “In addition to his parents, the elderly patients in the hospital also sent Many words of encouragement came to me. The doctors and nurses wholeheartedly took care of me and inspired me to become strong and continue to pursue my passion for music.”
Nam Woo Hyun officially entered the Korean entertainment industry in 2010 as a member of the group INFINITE. INFINITE quickly achieved great success, rising to the ranks of the top 2nd generation Kpop groups. Since 2016, Nam Woo Hyun has been actively working as a solo artist. Besides singing, the male artist also starred in a television series called Hi! School: Love On.
