“The Glory” director Ahn Gil Ho has admitted to the allegation of assaulting the person who harassed his girlfriend.
On March 10, prior to the premiere of Part 2 of the drama The Glory, accusations of school bullying against PD Ahn Gil Ho started to circulate through online communities. An anonymous individual (hereafter referred to as “A”) claimed that during Ahn Gil Ho’s time studying abroad in the Philippines, he had threatened and physically harmed A and their classmates upon discovering that they had teased his then-girlfriend.
Days afterfacing the allegations, the director of the acclaimed Netflix series came forward with a statement with eDaily on March 12. He stated that he apologizes for the “public criticism” and that he would like to “convey his apologies directly.”
The legal representative of director Ahn stated that “Ahn Gil Ho did have a girlfriend while he was studying abroad in 1996,” and that he “committed an irreversible, hurtful act against another person when he was overwhelmed after learning about his girlfriend becoming the object of mockery because of him.”
Director Ahn told the media outlet that he “would like to ask for forgiveness from the people who were hurt by this incident, from the bottom of [his] heart.” He added, “if I am given the opportunity, I would like to apologize in person or at least through the wire.”
Upon seeing this news, netizens once again spoke up expressing their shock toward the irony. In addition to their previous reactions based on conjectures, netizens wrote:
“The comments bashing him are wild. He defended his girlfriend that was being bullied AS HE SHOULD. Unless he did more than that I don’t think this is enough to classify him as a bully”
