Welcome to Waikiki’s actress is struggling to stay alive against cancer!
On February 21, actress Min Ji Young and her husband Kim Hyung Kyun appeared on the TV Chosun program Healthy House, sharing a story that caused a stir in the media. On the show, the actress revealed that the reason she hasn’t acted in films for the past 6 years is to focus on her family and treatment for thyroid cancer. Min Ji Young has undergone many surgeries and is currently in the process of recovery.
The Welcome to Waikiki actress confessed, “I got married at the age of 40 and have always worked hard. During a health check, I discovered that I had thyroid cancer. After the surgery, I struggled with dizziness, fainting, and nausea for 6 months.” The side effects of medication and surgeries also made Min Ji Young’s appearance increasingly worn out, and she cried many times when standing in front of the mirror.
Thyroid cancer also affected Min Ji Young’s ability to conceive: “I was pregnant but couldn’t keep the baby. As time goes by, my chances of having a child decrease. I always hope to be a mother.” Her husband sat beside her, constantly encouraging her to be happier and healthier before becoming a mother. Currently, the couple has frozen embryos.
Min Ji Young was born in 1979 and is a familiar face in many movies such as Will It Snow On Christmas, Ladies of the Palace, War of Money, Welcome to Waikiki, Gangnam Scandal, and more. In 2017, she got married to MC Kim Hyung Kyun.
