Song Hye Kyo beat Song Joong Ki with “The Glory” and saved the sluggish performance of Netflix
“The Glory”, starring actress Song Hye Kyo, beat JTBC’s hit “Reborn Rich” to achieve No.1 on Netflix chart in Korea.
According to Netflix Korea’s “Today’s Top 10 Series”, “The Glory” ranked 1st place, followed by No.2 JTBC’s “Reborn Rich”, No.3 tvN’s Sat-Sun drama “Alchemy of Souls”, No.4 entertainment program “Single’s Inferno Season 2”, and No.5 TV Chosun’s “Mr. Trot”.
Netflix’s original series “The Glory”, which was released on Dec 30th, rose to 2nd place right behind “Reborn Rich” on the first day of the new year. The next day, the drama continued its upward trend and seized 1st place for the first time.
In particular, the mega-hit drama “Reborn Rich” had remained at the top for more than a month because other works, such as Netflix’s “Money Heist: Korea Part.2” and “The Fabulous”, performed poorly. While most of the original series introduced at the end of last year were rated below expectations, Song Hye Kyo’s revenge series “The Glory” is doing well and arousing keen interest.
According to FlixPatrol, “The Glory” rose sharply from No.9 on Dec 31st (local time) to No.5 on Jan 1st in Netflix worldwide “Today’s Top 10 TV Shows”. It is expected to perform even better in the global rankings.
Meanwhile, “The Glory” tells the story of Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo), whose soul was broken due to the experience of school bullying during high school, spending her whole life preparing a revenge plan, and those who fall into the whirlwind of that revenge.
This work marks the first OTT entry of famous screenwriter Kim Eun Sook, who was behind the success of “Secret Garden”, “Mr. Sunshine”, “Descendants of the Sun”, etc.
