The male lead role ‘Gu Jun Pyo’ of “Boys Over Flowers” could have been played by another actor
Lee Min Ho is not the first actor invited by the director of this film to play the role of Gu Jun Pyo.
In 2009, this drama created such a big wave making Asian youth went crazy for the school Shinhwa which is the school of the richest kids in South Korea. Extravagant buildings, dazzling oufits from the drama made every one its fans. The F4 became the beauty standard and even after all those years, people still mention the phrase “as handsome as F4”. Not stopping there, the school uniform of BOF was also a hot item to Asian youth at that time and became a trend in school fashion.
BOF was also the launcher for many young actors/actresses to become an A-grade star just in one night. Photos of Lee Min Ho, Goo Hye Sun, Kim Hyun Joong, Kim Bum and Song Woo Bin appeared from almost every Asian kid’s bedroom to the classroom. The rising stars even arranged a Asia fan meeting tour which attracted many fans.
Before BOF, Lee Min Ho was just a young normal actor with no special role in his career whatsoever. After BOF was aired, he immediately became the icon of male actors who were born in the 80s appearing on TV. Lee Min Ho, after the success of BOF, started to appear in many famous drama such as City Hunter, Faith, The Inheritors, Legend of the Blue Sea,…
But there’s a truth you never knew
Gu Jun Pyo from Boys Over Flowers was given life by Lee Min Ho, but it seems he wasn’t actually the first choice to play the role. It was Jang Geun Suk who was originally tapped to play the curly-haired lead but had to turn down the offer because he chose to star in the K-drama Beethoven Virus.
This can be said to be God’s arrangement, Lee Min Ho was given the opportunity to shine.
