Kim Woo Bin’s early detection of cancer was reportedly thanks to Lee Byung Hun
A reporter revealed that Kim Woo Bin was diagnosed with cancer early thanks to his senior Lee Byung Hun.
In a live broadcast on April 27th, Lee Jin Ho, former entertainment reporter-turned-YouTuber, talked about Kim Woo Bin’s battle against nasopharyngeal cancer.
According to Lee Jin Ho, Kim Woo Bin did not undergo a separate detailed examination in May 2017 despite the symptoms of nosebleeds, because he only thought he had a lot of schedules so his body was suffering.
Lee Jin Ho revealed that it was the day after Kim Woo Bin had a drink with Lee Byung Hun that he first received a thorough checkup. Lee Byung Hun advised Kim Woo Bin to go see a doctor when he saw his junior have a nosebleed at a drinking party. And as a result, Kim Woo Bin was able to detect cancer early.
At the time, Sidus HQ, Kim Woo Bin’s management company, spoke on his condition, “Fortunately, the treatment was carried out early enough, so he started medication and radiation therapy.”
Nasopharyngeal cancer is a cancer that occurs in the nose, throat, and tonsils, and when detected early, the survival rate is around 70%. When cancer metastasizes to the brain, it can even cause cranial nerve paralysis, so early treatment is extremely important.
Typical early symptoms include a lump in the throat, hoarse voice, a runny nose mixed with blood, hearing loss, and hemoptysis.
Kim Woo Bin recently made a comeback from his cancer treatment in tvN’s drama ‘Our Blues’, featuring a star-studded cast including Lee Byung Hun, Cha Seung Won, Han Ji Min, and his girlfriend Shin Min Ah.
