Here’s How Kim Min Kyu Prepared For His Role In ‘Business Proposal’
Right after his stint in the Disney+ series Snowdrop, Kim Min Kyu starred in Netflix’s Business Proposal. If you’ve watched both dramas, you’ll appreciate his duality in portraying his characters—one’s an *annoying* comrade while the other is a swoon-worthy secretary! For his latest project, Min Kyu went the extra mile and the result is impressive.
Business Proposal is a webtoon-based drama about a food researcher named Shin Ha Ri (Kim Sejeong) who went on a blind date in place of her BFF (Seol In Ah). Little did she know that she’ll be meeting her company’s CEO, Kang Tae Moo (Ahn Hyo Seop). Here, Min Kyu plays chief secretary Cha Sung Hoon.
In his interview with Ten Asia, Min Kyu shared how he prepared for his role: He actually gained 15 kilos in order for him to synchronize his image with the webtoon character, whom he describes as someone who is ~*perfect*~! “I really worked hard on my diet. I ate six meals a day—which included beef and chicken—to gain muscle. A week before filming the undressing scene, I only ate chicken breasts. I worked a lot on creating a fit body through diet. I wanted to transform my image from a young guy to a manly and sexy figure.”
Speaking of scenes, did you know that a part of his kissing scene with Seol In Ah was actually improvised? Since Sung Hoon wears eyeglasses, it was a bit uncomfy to do the scene and he thought that it would be awkward if Young Seo takes them off. And so he removed it in the middle of filming! “I didn’t really calculate how it would look and just did it. It wasn’t even in the script.” IDK about you but this scene is in my head for weeks.
Business Proposal was a huge success after it embraced the K-drama clichés and made them as funny as they can be. It’s currently at the top spot of Netflix PH’s Top 10 and has also received double-digit ratings in South Korea. Min Kyu said that he’s happy and thankful for the drama, and when asked if he personally felt the popularity, he replied: “I haven’t felt the popularity. The only change I see in front of my eyes is the number of followers on my social media has changed.”
Can’t wait to see you in your next project, Min Kyu!
