1. Jang Dong-gun and Ko So-young
We know what you’re thinking – isn’t Bali too obvious and cliché for a honeymoon destination? But hey, it’s popular for a reason. Plus, staying in a private resort with a private beach all to yourself? Now that’s a honeymoon to remember.
According to Mnet’s TMI News, Ko So-young was four months pregnant when Jang Dong-gun prepared this luxury honeymoon trip as a gift for her. The couple stayed in Bulgari Resort Bali, which can cost up to US$5,300 per night. The private resort includes its own private beach, private swimming pools for each villa or mansion as well as large rooms with ocean views, butler services and more. The trip costs around US$10,000 including US$4,000 for the return flights from Korea to Bali.
2. Lee Byung-hun and Lee Min-jung
Apart from Bali, the Maldives is another popular destination for honeymoon trips – which is why Lee Byung-hun (Hollywood film G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Squid Game) and Lee Min-jung (Boys Over Flowers) chose to spend seven to 10 days (reports vary) at a private villa in Jumeirah Dhevanafushi, which has since been revamped and turned into Raffles Maldives Merado Resort.
According to K-Star-Holic, 38 villas occupy the resort’s two islands. Each villa has a 13-metre-long swimming pool, a marble bath, outdoor shower facilities and even glass floors installed on the terrace for endless ocean views.
A one-night stay at the resort can cost up to US$7,700 per night, based on the hotel’s most expensive room. In the Lee couple’s case, the total cost of accommodation alone for about a week is estimated to be US$53,900 to US$77,000.
3. Yeon Jung-hoon and Han Ga-in
What would you do if you could go on honeymoon for a month? Vampire Prosecutor 2 star Yeon Jung-hoon and The Moon Embracing the Sun star Han Ga-in spent their month-long honeymoon travelling around Europe, the US and even Mexico!
According to Chosun Ilbo, the couple originally planned to visit the US and Mexico by renting a car but added a week in Europe into their schedule after getting an invite from their friend who was living in Europe at the time. Throughout their trip, they stayed at Club Med, which is popular for all-inclusive holidays, in three different cities including Vittel and Chamonix, France and Cancún, Mexico.
Among all the different cities the couple visited during their honeymoon trip, many fans were amazed by the view and the interior of the Cancún villa they stayed in.
4. Lee Young-ae and Eun Ji-won
Some Korean stars prefer to keep their weddings private with only loved ones and close friends invited to their big day, others prefer a very public affair, and some choose to fly away for a destination wedding.
According to Hans Cinema, Inspector Koo star Lee Young-ae chose to get married in Kahala Hotel, Hawaii so she and her husband, Korean-American businessman Jeong Ho-young, “could be free from public scrutiny”.
This stunning destination is popular among celebrities: former member of Korean boy band Sechs Kies, Eun Ji-won, flew to Hawaii in 2010 for a pre-wedding honeymoon, then married his first love Lee Sooyeon, whom he also met in Hawaii, at the Kahala Hotel. Unfortunately, the couple divorced three years later.
